Say What You Need to Say- John Mayer

Take all of your wasted honor
Every little past frustration
Take all of your so-called problems
Better put them in quotations

Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say

Walking like a one man army
Fighting with the shadows in your head
Living out the same old moment
Knowing you’d be better off instead
If you could only

Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say

Have no fear for giving in
Have no fear for giving over
You better know that in the end
It’s better to say too much
Than never to say what you need to say again

Even if your hands are shaking
And your faith is broken
Even as the eyes are closing
Do it with a heart wide open

Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say

Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to
Say what you need to

Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say

Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say

Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say
Say what you need to say

This song obviously has a lot of repetition. It is also obvious that the phrase "say what you need to say" is repeated the most through out the entire song. The song is mostly about motivating a person to say what they are really feeling. It's repetition is telling the listener to forget all of their fears and say what they need to say, it is most apparent when the phrases "take all of your," "have no fear," "better," and "say what you need to say" appear in the song.

  1. Not only is this song stressing the importance of speaking freely, but on top of that it is also encouraging people to be who they want to be. In this song John Mayer stresses the importance of being an individual, and the repition in the song reinforces that idea.

  2. Such a great song. Like Pat said, it encourages people to speak freely by using repetition telling them so. Sometimes it takes repetitin to get into peoples heads.

  3. john Mayer clearly uses repetition to enforce what he is trying to say. Especially when it comes to relationships, it is very important to "say what you need to say" and communicate with one another
